Opportunities offered to the spouse of the temporary worker

Work permit for spouses

In Québec, the spouse of a temporary worker - whether legally married or de facto, of the same or opposite sex - can benefit from a specific procedure to gain access to the job market. An application for a spousal work permit can be made at the same time as the temporary worker’s application.

Full-time or part-time studies

It is also possible for spouses to enrol in full-time or part-time studies. They must obtain a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ - Québec Acceptance Certificate) for studies, as well as a study permit issued by the Government of Canada. Spouses can submit an application from overseas, at the same time as the temporary worker’s application.

Education costs include tuition fees applicable to foreign students, as well as other related educational fees. However, the spouses of certain temporary workers may be eligible for an exemption. The tuition fees payable will then be the same as those for Québec students.
