Reception programs

Government-assisted refugees are welcomed upon arrival by Québec officials and taken to their destination city, where they are provided with hotel accommodations for a few days.

Representatives of host organizations and Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion assist them in getting settled by helping them find an apartment, register for public health insurance and employment assistance, enroll their children in school and open a bank account.

Given that they usually arrive destitute, they are also provided with furniture, clothing, household items and basic necessities. Refugees who speak neither French nor English receive linguistic and cultural assistance and interpretation services to facilitate their integration and access to public services.

Sponsored refugees are welcomed and supported financially by the groups and organizations that have agreed to sponsor them.
