Assisting the sponsored person integrate into Québec

The person you have sponsored and the members of his or her family will need support in getting settled in Québec and in their social and occupational integration. As a sponsor, you have an important role to play in this regard.
For example, you must inform them about Québec society and culture or direct them to available resources for learning French or undertaking an effective job search.

Here are some examples of these services:

To assist you in assuming your role as sponsor, we encourage you to use the Learning About Québecguide, which explains the various steps that immigrants need to take. You can also give the person you are sponsoring the brochure on the common values of Québec society, which is available in several languages. Your efforts, combined with the services offered, will promote their full participation, in French, in Québec society.

Reminder of your financial commitment

Keep in mind that you have made a financial commitment to the people you are sponsoring. This commitment is for one year following the arrival of the refugee and his or her family in Québec. It requires you to assume the following costs and expenses:

  • The cost of getting settled in Québec, including housing, furnishings, travel, food and clothing for the sponsored person and his or her family
  • Expenses incurred for necessary health care, health services and drugs not covered or reimbursed by a public insurance plan
  • Costs related to the steps or preparation required to help the sponsored person enter the job market or look for a job and that are not covered by a government program
