French courses for non-francophonesYour ability to speak French will help you develop networks of contacts and expand your job opportunities. Since French is the common language of public life, the Government of Québec considers learning it an essential condition for the integration of all immigrants and devotes considerable resources to it. French-language courses for immigrantsThe government offers a range of French-language instruction tailored to the diverse needs and availability of immigrants. The Ministère’s departments offer courses of various lengths and levels to immigrants in partnership with public educational institutions and community organizations. Most universities, general and vocational colleges (CEGEPs) and school boards include French instruction in their adult education programs for the general public. Some private language schools also teach French as a second language. Intensive full-time learning packages are offered during the day, in consecutive or intermittent 11-week sessions. Registration in certain programs may qualify you for financial assistance. These courses will also introduce you to the practical aspects of daily life in Québec. See French language – Full-time intensive courses In Montréal and some regions, French courses are also offered in the workplace. Only courses provided upon registration with the Ministère are completely free of charge. Otherwise, the courses may be free, but more often than not, require a registration fee.
