Territory and main cities
The Montérégie, with an area of 11,111 km2, is characterized
by a juxtaposition of urban and rural environments as pleasing to lovers of
wide-open spaces as to those seeking a fast growing economic environment. It
has all the urban services (schools, CLSCs, hospitals, etc.), skilled manpower
and numerous job opportunities, making it an excellent place to settle. Situated
on the periphery of Montréal and extending to the United States border,
the Montérégie has a vast road network linking it to the large
industrial centres of the U.S. Northeast.

Economy and employment
The Montérégie region has a dynamic economy combining a low
unemployment rate with a strong rate of job growth. Large corporations, major
industrial parks and research centres give it an important presence on the
national and international stage. Priority growth industries in Montérégie
are manufacturing, bio-food, research, the environment, tourism and transportation.
In addition to playing a predominant role in industrial research and development
in Québec, the Montérégie is proud of a major research
and high technology park containing one of the world's highest concentrations
of researchers in the energy and metals fields.
