Special economic sanctions against Iran

Effective November 21, 2011, Iranian nationals and persons residing in Iran may face restrictions in transferring funds to, or opening bank accounts with Canadian financial institutions.

Persons affected by the sanctions on financial transactions, whether they are applicants for a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), a visa or already in Québec, may apply for permits from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) that authorize specified activities or transactions that are otherwise prohibited under the sanctions.

For more information, applicants should contact:

Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade
Economic Law Section (JLHB)
125 Sussex Drive
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0G2
CANADA
Tel: (613) 995-1108
Fax: (613) 992-2467
e-mail: sanctions@international.gc.ca

Please note that the issue of such authorizations falls outside of the jurisdiction of the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles. Therefore, the Ministère cannot guarantee that such an authorization will be issued to you. Nonetheless, if you must obtain such a permit to meet a requirement to obtain your CSQ, you should warn the Ministère so it may take these steps into consideration while following up on your application.
