Suspension of acceptance of new sponsorship applications as of January 27, 2017

As of December 31, 2016, Québec had welcomed 7,431 Syrian refugees (in French - PDF, 67 Kb). Most of these refugees came to Québec through the Collective Sponsorship Program.

Following this operation and the many sponsorship applications received during the course of the year 2016, the Minister of Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion, Mrs. Kathleen Weil, announced in a press release that she will temporarily suspend acceptance of all new collective sponsorship applications, as of January 27, 2017.

Consequently, the deadline for submitting a new undertaking application is Thursday, January 26, 2017, at 4:30 p.m., regardless of where the person you wish to sponsor comes from. The postmark affixed by the Ministère, and not by Post Canada or a courier service, will be proof of the time and date received.
