French courses: more persons admissible, greater financial assistance and simplified process for the clientele!

As of July 1, 2021, a greater number of immigrants will now have free access to French courses offered by the Québec government and to financial assistance. The latter has been increased and some conditions have been simplified to ease the steps to be taken.

More persons admissible

  • Persons living abroad who have a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) are now admissible for online French courses with tutoring.
  • Asylum seekers are now admissible for online French courses.

An increase in financial assistance

If living abroad:

  • For courses taken abroad with a partner of the Ministère, the refund amount of $1,500 rises to $1,800.
  • For those who took French courses in the two years before receiving the Québec selection certificate (CSQ), they can now receive a refund under certain conditions once they arrive in Québec.

If living in Québec:

  • The amount for financial assistance stretches from $188 to $200 per week for full-time courses and from $15 to $25 per day for part-time courses.

Simplified process

  • Temporary foreign workers can now take French courses offered by the Québec government for free and be admissible for financial assistance. They are no longer required to have the Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and a study permit to be admissible for the Francisation services of the Québec government.
  • Foreign students can now take French courses offered by the Québec government for free and be admissible for financial assistance, even if such a course is not a prerequisite for the main study program (withdrawal of the requirement that the francisation program be a prerequisite to the main study program or to the qualifying training for which the CAQ and the study permit were issued).
