Changes regarding the processing of original supporting documents submitted with an application

October 26, 2015 - New rules regarding the processing of original supporting documents submitted with an application come into effect today. These rules stipulate that the Ministère will not return any documents, except under certain exceptional circumstances.

The following original documents will only be returned if they were required in their original format:

  • diplomas;
  • transcripts, except those issued by a Canadian or American institution;
  • property titles;
  • business licenses;
  • documents required for verification purposes, if they are authentic.

Once an application has been processed (that is, once a final decision has been rendered), the documents will be returned by registered mail or in person at the time of the interview, in order to ensure the protection and confidentiality of the personal information they contain.

These changes are part of a continuous effort to simplify document requirements whereby the Ministère will essentially request photocopies and true copies certified by a recognized authority.

Note that the Ministère’s website as well as the forms will soon be updated to reflect these new rules.
