Language requirements of the Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ)

You must have an intermediate knowledge of oral French to be eligible for the PEQ. The intermediate level corresponds to Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.
You must be able to prove your knowledge of French with one of the following items:

  • complete academic transcript attesting to the successful completion of at least two years of secondary or post-secondary study in French pursued full time in Québec or abroad;
  • academic transcript attesting to the successful completion of a intermediate level French course in an educational institution recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport or in a university located in Québec;
  • results attesting to the successful completion of a standardized oral French test at the intermediate level;
  • attestation of having satisfied the language requirements of a professional order in Québec.

If you wish to use a standardized test to establish your knowledge level in oral French, make sure that oral comprehension and oral expression are evaluated.

The following standardized tests are recognized by the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles:


Only the worker acting as principal applicant must fulfill the PEQ requirements to obtain a CSQ for himself and, where applicable, for his spouse or de facto spouse and dependent children included in his application. The characteristics of the spouse or de facto spouse are not taken into account in this program.
