Specific requirementsIn addition to the prerequisites for sponsorship, you must also take into consideration the following specific requirements pertaining to the close relative you wish to sponsor. Spouse, de facto spouse or conjugal partnerTo sponsor this person, you must demonstrate that:
Dependent childIf the dependent child you are sponsoring has a child of his or her own, you must satisfy the financial requirements. Parents, grandparents and their dependent childrenTo qualify as sponsor, you must demonstrate that:
Orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, grandson or granddaughter, who is under the age of 18, and not married or in a common-law relationshipTo qualify as sponsor, you must demonstrate that:
Child for adoption (international adoption)To sponsor a child you wish to adopt, you must contact a licensed agency or the Secrétariat à l’adoption internationale before beginning the process in the child’s home country. Once you have obtained authorization from the Secrétariat à l’adoption internationale, you will receive a letter that you must submit to the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles for the review of your undertaking application.
