Duration of sponsorship (undertaking)

The obligations of the sponsor (guarantor) generally take effect as soon as the sponsored person obtains permanent resident status.

IMPORTANT : An undertaking cannot be terminated. Obtaining Canadian citizenship, a separation or divorce or moving to another province do not constitute grounds for terminating the undertaking agreement. Moreover, even if your financial situation deteriorates, the undertaking agreement will remain in effect.
