Undertaking application

NOTICE : A new undertaking application form – family class category – has been online since December 1, 2016. You must use this form from now on to submit an application.

The undertaking application is a contract that binds you as sponsor to the person being sponsored and the Québec government. You can submit it to the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion once you have received confirmation that your sponsorship application is approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The gouvernement du Québec establishes the scales used to evaluate the sponsor’s financial capacity and determines the length of the undertaking. It also ensures compliance with the terms of this undertaking. Consequently, Québec sponsors are not affected by the changes made to the sponsorship of ascendants (parents, grandparents) by Canada. The scales used to evaluate financial capacity and the length of the undertaking established by Québec are included in the information below.

Application procedure

  1. Carefully read the Sponsor's Guide (PDF, 566 ko)

  2. Determine which undertaking application kit applies to your situation

    The undertaking application kit consists of the forms to complete and practical guides with all the information you need to easily submit your application.

    The content of the kit varies depending on your family relationship with the person(s) being sponsored.

    Choose the undertaking application kit that applies to your situation.

  3. Complete the forms in the kit

    Note: You must complete two copies of the undertaking application form and sign both of them.

  4. Enclose:
    - a copy of the letter or email you received from the IRCC inviting you to continue your sponsorship process with the Ministère;
    - payment of the required fees for processing your application;
    - all of the required forms, including those that must be completed by the sponsored person, duly completed and signed.

  5. Send all of the above to the Direction de l'enregistrement et de l'évaluation comparative in Montréal
