Sponsorship application

The sponsorship application is the starting point of the sponsorship process. It must be submitted to the Government of Canada (Citizenship and Immigration Canada). It is the latter that determines who can be a sponsor, who can be sponsored and the situations under which the sponsor’s (guarantor’s) financial situation must be taken into account.

Procedure

To apply to sponsor a relative, you must send to Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

If Citizenship and Immigration Canada approves your sponsorship application, you will be invited to continue your process with the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC) of Québec.

  USEFUL INFORMATION

If you are abroad when you submit your application, contact the Canadian Embassy covering your territory. This procedure, however, is restricted to the sponsorship of a spouse, de facto spouse, conjugal partner or a dependent child who is childless.

If your married or de facto spouse who you wish to sponsor is already in Canada, contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada to find out about the guidelines for sponsorship in this case.
