Reception programs

Government-assisted refugees are welcomed upon their arrival by representatives of Québec and taken to their destination city, where they are provided with hotel accommodations for a few days.

Representatives of community organizations and the Ministry assist them in getting settled by helping them look for housing, apply for health insurance and employment assitance, register their children in school and open a bank account.

Given that they usually arrive destitute, with few possessions, they are also provided with furniture, clothing, household items and other essentials. Refugees who speak neither French nor English receive linguistic and cultural assistance and interpretation services in order to facilitate their integration and their access to public services.

Sponsored refugees are welcomed and supported financially by the groups that have undertaken to sponsor them.
