Assessment of the application of the sponsored person abroad and follow-up

Once the sponsorship undertaking has been accepted by the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles, the sponsored person will be called to an interview to determine whether he or she belongs to an eligible category. The sponsored person must also demonstrate his or her ability to successfully integrate into Québec society.

You can help the person you are sponsoring prepare for this interview by explaining the factors that are considered in the assessment of an application and by insisting on the importance of providing an exhaustive disclosure of his or her situation. See Being selected by Québec.

Application follow-up prior to the sponsored person’s arrival

To the extent possible, you will be informed of the main steps in the processing of the application by means of a follow-up record:

  • date of the candidate’s interview
  • visa officer’s decision regarding eligibility for a federal category
  • decision of Québec’s immigration counsellor
  • reasons for refusal, if applicable
  • planned date of arrival in Québec.

Reminder for the sponsored person : All forms that are sent to the sponsored person must be duly filled out. The sponsored person must answer all questions accurately. All required documents must be included in the reply envelope. Submitting incomplete documentation will delay the processing of the application.

Your sponsored person must inform you, as well as the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles, of any change of address or changes in family situation: birth, marriage, death, etc.
