Assisting the sponsored person integrate into Québec

By signing an undertaking, you have made a formal commitment to provide for the essential needs of the sponsored person and his or her family members, to facilitate their establishment, to help them to learn French, to support them in their search for work, and to assist in their integration into life in Québec. In order to be able to fulfill all of these obligations, you must be adequately prepared. You can start right away by:

  • identifying the government services that the newcomers will need or that could be a good resource for them (health insurance, social insurance number, French courses, job search support services, schools for their children, etc.)
  • beginning to look for housing without, however, signing a lease before obtaining the sponsored person’s consent
  • gathering the necessary clothes, particularly if the person is arriving in winter.

  PRACTICAL ADVICE
  • If the person you are sponsoring has access to Internet and if he or she can read French, English or Spanish, encourage him or her to read the section Sponsored refugee, which describes the typical procedures that newcomers face upon their arrival in Québec.
  • You can also read the guide Learning about Québec to find out how you can help the sponsored person get settled in Québec.
