Collective sponsorship

Proocessing time for undertaking applications
The Ministère’s current processing time is approximately 5 months. We process all undertaking applications in the same manner, whether they are for Syrian refugees or refugees from other countries.

Suspension of acceptance of new sponsorship applications as of January 27, 2017

Following Operation Welcome Syrian Refugees and the many sponsorship applications received during the course of the year 2016, the Minister of Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion, Mrs. Kathleen Weil, announced in a press release that she will temporarily suspend acceptance of all new collective sponsorship applications, as of January 27, 2017.

Consequently, the deadline for submitting a new undertaking application is Thursday, January 26, 2017, at 4:30 p.m., regardless of where the person you wish to sponsor comes from. The postmark affixed by the Ministère, and not by Post Canada or a courier service, will be proof of the time and date received.

To submit a sponsorship application, you must follow the 5-step process

No application, without exception, can be delivered by hand to the Ministère.

Undertaking applications must be submitted by mail only to the following mailing address:

Arrival times of sponsored refugees

Refugees, for whom a sponsorship application is submitted today, will likely not arrive in Québec before 2019, and possibly even later, depending on the Canadian Visa Office that processes the application.

This arrival time is for information purposes only. It is estimated based on the number of applications awaiting processing at the federal level, the processing times of Canadian visa offices and the number of sponsored refugees Québec has planned to received over the next few years, in accordance with the plan submitted to the National Assembly.

Please consult the application processing times of Canadian visa offices on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website.
