Submitting a collective sponsorship application

Please consult the Immigration rules and procedures page. Before submitting an application, it is important that you read the information about the intake periods for undertaking applications.


If you meet the requirements and want to submit a collective sponsorship application, here is the procedure to follow:

  1. Complete all required forms, depending on whether you are a:
    - Group of two to five persons (Instructions, forms and list of documents to be included)
    - Legal person (Instructions, forms and list of documents to be included)

    You must declare the following on your sponsorship application:

    - All members of the immediate family of the person you are sponsoring (spouse and children), even if they are not accompanying the sponsored person
    - The immediate family members of the sponsored person (spouse and children) who are missing and for whom you do not have confirmation of death

    When signing an undertaking, you must avoid separating extended family members who live together and are emotionally or financially interdependent. You must therefore assess the family situation as a whole and, if necessary, sign separate undertakings to sponsor all the members of the family unit.

  2. Send all required documents to the attention of Direction de l’immigration familiale et humanitaire at the mailing address of Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration.

    Processing of collective sponsorship applications is free.



Once you have submitted your sponsorship application, you must inform us of any change in the family situation of the person you are sponsoring (e.g., the birth of a child, his or her marriage or the marriage of one of his or her children). To make a change or to obtain information on your file, please contact Centre de contacts clientèle (Information service).



The next steps

  • If your sponsorship application is approved, you will receive a copy of your accepted undertaking form in the mail, along with a letter confirming acceptance. You must then send the application for permanent residence of the persons you are sponsoring to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), following the instructions described in the letter. IRCC will continue to review the file of the persons you sponsor, including whether they meet the refugee class definition.
  • If your sponsorship application is refused, you will be notified in writing.


Acceptance of an undertaking does not automatically guarantee that a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ – Québec Acceptance Certificate) or a permanent resident visa will be issued to the person you are sponsoring. These are two separate procedures.
