Assisting the sponsored person integrate into Québec

The people who you sponsored will need support both in their process of getting settled in Québec and in their social and occupational integration. As a sponsor, you have an important role to play in this regard.

For example, you must inform them about Québec society and culture, or direct them to available resources for learning French or undertaking an effective job search.

Here are some examples of these services:

To assist you in assuming your role as sponsor, we encourage you to use the guide Learning About Québec, which explains the various procedures that need to be undertaken by immigrants. You can also give the person you are sponsoring the brochure on the common values of Québec society. Your efforts, combined with the services offered, will promote their full participation, in French, in Québec society.

Reminder of your financial commitment

Keep in mind that you have made a financial commitment to the people you are sponsoring. This commitment is usually for a duration of one year following the arrival of the refugee and his or her family to Québec. You must assume the following costs and disbursements:

  • the cost of getting settled in Québec of the sponsored person and of his or her family, including housing costs, furnishings, transportation, food and clothing;
  • the cost of necessary health care, services and medication, not covered or not reimbursed by a public health insurance plan.

Thank you for your commitment. If you have any questions or are having any difficulty fulfilling your role as sponsor, please contact us:
