Family reunification

The Ministère has taken measures to stop the spread of the virus and to limit the impact of the unprecedented crisis we are experiencing. Please consult the Notice to the Ministère’s clientele.

Processing times

The Ministère has made significant efforts to reduce processing times for family reunification applications while assuming responsibility for the health of public service personnel.

The process improvement plan implemented since June 2020 has reduced these deadlines and cleared the backlog accumulated in 2019 and 2020. These improvements lift the suspension of MIFI’s commitment in terms of processing times, announced in the Service Statement (French only).

  • The Direction de l’immigration familiale is starting to examine the undertaking applications in favour of:
    • a spouse, a de facto spouse or a dependant child received on November 26, 2021;
    • other family members received on October 15, 2021.

This information will be updated regularly.

The Ministère’s decision will be sent directly to the office of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada where the application for permanent residence for the person you are sponsoring will be processed. These timeframes will therefore not affect the timeframe for issuing permanent resident visas for sponsored persons.
