Undertaking application

The content of this page is not up-to-date.

A new regulation respecting immigration to Québec entered into force on August 2, 2018.

For the time being, only the French versions of the Web pages and forms are up-to-date. Please refer to them while waiting for the content update in English. You can also consult the Québec Immigration Act in the Gazette officielle du Québec.

Thank you for your understanding.

NOTICE: It is important to send a complete file in order to avoid having your kit returned without being processed. Note that the return of an incomplete kit can lead to significant delays in processing your file and generate additional postage fees.

To avoid the unnecessary return of your file, we recommend that you carefully read the instructions provided on the website and on the forms.

The main reasons for returning an application are:

- Incorrectly completed or unsigned undertaking application form;
- Incorrect payment method or incorrect amount
  (see Fees and payment methods);
- Missing documents or other unsigned forms.

The undertaking application is a contract that binds you as sponsor to the person being sponsored and the Québec government. You can submit it to the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (MIDI) once you have received confirmation that your sponsorship application is approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The gouvernement du Québec establishes the scales used to evaluate the sponsor’s financial capacity and determines the length of the undertaking. It also ensures compliance with the terms of this undertaking. Consequently, Québec sponsors are not affected by the changes made to the sponsorship of ascendants (parents, grandparents) by Canada. The scales established by Québec to evaluate the financial capacity and duration of the undertaking are provided in the kits at the bottom of the page.

Once your sponsorship application has been sent to the IRCC, save time by preparing your undertaking application including the application for a selection certificate of the sponsored person along with all of the documents required so that you are ready to send it to the MIDI as soon as you receive an invitation from the IRCC to continue with your procedure.
