Telephone and Internet

Telephone

In Québec, several telecommunications companies offer residential telephone services. To obtain telephone service, simply contact the customer service of one of the providers serving your municipality. Telephones and directories are also available from these providers. You will probably be asked to pay a deposit for the hook-up service, which usually only takes a few days.

These telecommunications companies generally offer a monthly flat rate for an unlimited number of local calls, regardless of their duration. They also offer flat rate packages for an unlimited number of long-distance calls made between certain hours. Find out about the plans that best suit your needs. Calling cards may also prove useful.

  USEFUL INFORMATION
  • The first pages in your telephone directory explain everything you need to know (rates, use, etc.). They also list the addresses of service counters in your area.
  • Telephone numbers beginning with 1-800, 1-888, 1-877 and 1-866 indicate that the call is long-distance but free of charge.

Internet

You can choose a telephone connection, in which case you must subscribe for a residential line, or a connection with a modem cable. The cost varies according to the package you choose.
