Course description

The content of part-time French courses is divided into three blocs that usually correspond to full time courses numbered FIA 330-1, FIA 330-2 and FIA 330-3

Part-time courses offer fewer hours of teaching than full-time courses. The blocs are subdivided into two modules to better distribute content. Here is a brief description of the contents of the blocs:

Block 1, beginner level

You speak little or no French.

This course explores the basic concepts of the French language, spoken and written, to meet your immediate needs.

It will also familiarize you with the geographic and historical characteristics of Québec and the customs, codes and rules of everyday life in Québec.

Block 2, intermediate level

You are starting to communicate in French. You can speak and understand it and write it a bit.

This course will consolidate your learning of the basic concepts of written and spoken French to meet most of your current needs.

It also gives you an opportunity to continue exploring the geographic and historical characteristics of Québec. You will learn about significant events in Québec history, as well as the resources and institutions of Québec society associated with the exercise of your rights and responsibilities as a member of the society.

Bloc 3, intermediate level (more advanced)

You manage to communicate in French, but you make many mistakes that prevent you from being totally functional in Québec.

This course will deepen your understanding of the concepts of the French language and strengthen your ability to understand and produce oral and written statements to meet specific needs of everyday life.

It also gives you an opportunity to become familiar with Québec literature, deepen your knowledge of certain historical events in relation to current news, learn about the character of the economy in Québec and distinguish the various forms of participation in community life.
