School boardsSchool boards bring together public schools, from preschool to secondary school, as well as vocational training centres and continuing education centres. Most school boards are francophone, and some are anglophone. The school boards are administered by a council of commissioners, elected by universal suffrage for a four-year mandate, as well as parent representatives elected for one year. They are responsible for organizing and providing quality education services that effectively respond to the educational needs of youth, adults and organizations on their territory, particularly businesses. They must also adapt their educational services to the needs of students with disabilities and students with learning or adjustment difficulties. The school boards determine the educational services offered by each school, vocational training centre and continuing education centre. They ensure childcare services for students in preschool and elementary school, and can organize student transportation as well as services, such as food and lodging, to promote more accessible educational services.
