Domestic violence

Although violence against any person (man, woman or child) is condemned in Québec society, individuals are sometimes attacked or are victims of conjugal violence, and children are often victims of family violence. You should know that the law encourages you not to tolerate this situation.

You will not lose any of your rights if you leave the conjugal home because of abuse. On the contrary, you and your children are protected by law. The law considers these attacks to be serious crimes under any circumstances, and you should not be afraid to call the police for protection. In collaboration with social services, they will refer you to a shelter if necessary.

In an emergency, call the police immediately by dialing 9-1-1.

  USEFUL INFORMATION

There are many organizations that can provide you with information, advice and comfort. The nearest police station or CSSS can tell you about the best resources to meet your needs. Some have free telephone crisis lines that are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
